Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has invited Turkey to join the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project. He made this proposal during the launching ceremony of a ship in Karachi, which was attended by the Vice President of Turkey, Cevdet Yilmaz. The prime minister emphasized the need to enhance the strategic cooperation between Pakistan and Turkey and extend their partnership to other areas. He also mentioned that the first phase of CPEC has been successful, and the second phase will focus on establishing economic corridors to increase business transactions between China and Pakistan. Prime Minister Shehbaz invited Turkey to be a part of this progress and prosperity. He praised the support of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and highlighted the importance of strengthening the navy and maritime activities due to regional actors trying to establish dominance. The agreement for constructing four MILGEM-Class Ships for the Pakistan Navy was signed in 2018, with two ships being built in Turkey and two in Pakistan. Three ships have already been launched and are in different stages of completion.
