Federal Minister for Communications, Mufti Asad Mahmood, has suggested that Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of the political party Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl, could be the candidate for president in the next general elections. Mahmood also stated that the parties in the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) will contest the elections based on their 14-month performance. He mentioned that the PDM is ready for the elections as the National Assembly’s tenure will end in August, but it is up to the Election Commission of Pakistan to set the date. Mahmood accused the previous government of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) of causing an economic crisis and following anti-state policies. He praised the present government for saving the country from default and restoring trust in the international community. Mahmood criticized PTI chairman Imran Khan for his claims of fighting corruption, stating that record corruption took place during his leadership. He mentioned that the current government has restarted stalled mega projects and will start the upgrading of Ratta Kulachi and Bandkorai grid stations. This upgrade will resolve low voltage issues in the area. Reconstruction of the Bandkorai grid station is expected to be completed in about three months, according to Pesco CEO Sardar Arif Sadozai. A new grid station will also be inaugurated in the Gul Imam area of Tank district.
