South Korean proptech startup Urbanbase has won a patent dispute against its local rival Archidraw. The Seoul patent court ruled in favor of Urbanbase, invalidating all patents previously registered by Archidraw. Urbanbase is an AI-based tech firm that offers furnishing services using 3D interior simulation and 8K rendering technologies. They filed a lawsuit alleging that Archidraw had violated their patented technology for generating 3D models from two-dimensional drawings. The Korean Intellectual Property Trial and Appeal Board found that Archidraw’s technologies lacked novelty and essential elements for exclusivity in the market. Urbanbase hopes for fairer competition in the proptech market. With this legal victory, they aim to expand their presence through differentiated interior design services on online and offline platforms. They also plan to lead in metaverse innovation with their 70 patented technologies.
