Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke about the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and how it has been a significant development in Pakistan’s history. He mentioned that CPEC has transformed the country’s economic landscape with the support of China. However, he expressed regret that CPEC faced obstacles and baseless allegations for four years. Despite this, he hopes that CPEC will restart growth in sectors like agriculture and IT and promote special economic zones. The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude towards China for their support during difficult times, such as when Pakistan was seeking an agreement with the International Monetary Fund. He reassured that Pakistan will not default and emphasized the need to work hard to bring prosperity to the country. He also highlighted the strong strategic partnership between Pakistan and China, referring to them as “iron brothers.” Lastly, he mentioned that the Belt and Road Initiative is a reflection of President Xi Jinping’s philosophy of peace, friendship, and economic partnership. The Prime Minister met with Chinese Premier Li Qiang to celebrate the decade of CPEC and expressed satisfaction at the progress of CPEC projects in Pakistan. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continue working together for their shared objectives.
