Pakistan has granted consular access to fashion designer Khadija Shah, who was detained after the May 9 violence following the arrest of Imran Khan. Shah is a Pakistani and American citizen and the granddaughter of a former army chief. The United States had requested consular access for Shah as per the Vienna Convention which states that a detained foreign national must be informed of their right to communicate with consular officials and grants consular officials the right to visit a detained national and arrange for their legal representation. Shah had been sent to jail for seven days after being presented to court on May 24 in connection with an attack by alleged PTI supporters on Jinnah House on May 9. She was nominated in an FIR for terrorism and other charges. Shah is a co-founder and creative director of design house Élan and a vocal supporter of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
