The Supreme Court of Pakistan has adjourned a hearing concerning elections in Punjab without any proceedings. The case includes petitions and a plea from the Election Commission of Pakistan. Earlier in the week, the Supreme Court decided to combine the ECP’s petition against an April ruling with petitions filed against the Supreme Court (Review of Judgements and Orders) Act 2023. On Wednesday, an eight-member bench took up the case. The Chief Justice of Pakistan stated that the court will try to make a decision on the ECP plea as soon as possible and observed that all constitutional institutions are showing maturity. The Supreme Court (Review of Judgements and Orders) Bill, 2023, was passed by the National Assembly on April 15th and ensures the fundamental right to justice by providing for meaningful review of judgments and orders passed by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
