Former Punjab chief minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Chaudhry Parvez Elahi was re-arrested on Friday in a corruption case registered against him in Gujranwala. Elahi had been released earlier on Friday in another embezzlement case after a Judicial Magistrate ordered his release. However, he was immediately arrested again. Elahi had been presented in a Lahore district court on Friday morning in two cases registered in the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE). Since the arrest of PTI chief Imran Khan on May 9, PTI leaders have been arrested and re-arrested. On May 30, PTI leaders Ali Muhammad Khan and Shehryar Afridi were re-arrested by law enforcement authorities upon their release. This is not the first time PTI leaders have been re-arrested after their release from jail. The trend has been seen with Maleeka Bokhari, Yasmin Rashid, and Shireen Mazari. Shah Mahmood Qureshi was also re-arrested.
