The Pakistani anchorperson Imran Riaz Khan has been missing since his arrest on 11 May. Both Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Military Intelligence (MI) have denied having Khan in their custody, according to Lahore police Deputy Inspector General (Investigation), Kamran Adil. A writ petition was filed on 12 May and the Lahore High Court directed the attorney general to present Khan before the court, but the orders have not yet been followed. On 16 May, a first information report was registered against “unidentified persons” and police officers. At a previous hearing, the Punjab Inspector General had said that there was no trace of Khan at any police department in the country. The LHC has directed the ministries of interior and defence to “discharge their constitutional duties to effect the recovery” of the journalist. Journalists and human rights activists have criticised Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb’s comments regarding Khan’s case, as the anchorperson’s father Muhammad Riaz stressed that his son was “being punished for making a vlog”.
