The Lahore High Court has ordered the release of 123 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers who were detained following the violence on May 9. PTI leader Farrukh Habib asked for the release of the detained party activists, and the court directed the government to release them without delay. Meanwhile, over 500 women are being sought by police for several cases related to the May 9 violence. Male officers have been told not to arrest women, but those responsible for vandalising army installations are to be detained. Following the riots, the Ministry of Interior authorised the deployment of Pakistan Army in Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad after the respective setups asked for troops in a bid to maintain law-and-order. The army has promised “strict action” against the identified planners, facilitators, and political activists involved in the “acts of vandalism” which occurred on May 9 in a bid to push Pakistan “into a civil war”.
