Science ministers from the Group of Seven (G-7) nations have called for cooperation in removing space debris orbiting Earth. The ministers, who gathered in Sendai, Japan, also highlighted the importance of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and quantum computing in economic, national and environmental security. The G-7 comprises the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the US, along with the European Union. The group’s representatives met to promote the benefits of scientific research globally while protecting individual countries’ economic and national interests. They also criticised Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, stating their belief that science and innovation have a vital role to play in rebuilding the Ukrainian economy.
