The Election Commission of Pakistan has rejected a plea by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) for four months to file a response to a show-cause notice in the case relating to forfeiture of prohibited funds the party received. The commission ordered PTI to file its reply by the next date of hearing on 30 May. The commission had previously declared that the PTI had received prohibited funding and had issued the show-cause notice. The PTI had filed an application for a four-month extension of time to reply to the notice, instead of filing its reply as required by law. The commission warned that if the party’s chairman Imran Khan and leader Fawad Chaudhry failed to appear at the next hearing, non-bailable warrants could be issued. The PTI has been accused of collecting funds unlawfully.
