Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ali Zaidi denied rumours that he was quitting the party and criticised the violence during protests on 9 May after PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s arrest. Zaidi stated that he would only leave PTI when Khan did. Additionally, PTI leader Aamer Mehmood Kiani said he was quitting the party due to damage to military installations by its supporters. Mahmood Baqi Maulvi also quit PTI after attributing the protests’ violence to the party’s anti-military campaign. Protests started across Pakistan after Khan’s arrest and resulted in nearly 2,000 arrests, eight deaths, and attacks on state buildings, police, and army installations. The protests ended after the Supreme Court of Pakistan ordered Imran’s “immediate release” on 10 May.
