The judicial commission led by Justice Qazi Faez Isa, appointed by the government to investigate recent audio leaks, has objected to the five-judge bench hearing pleas against its formation. Last week, while hearing four petitions against the appointment of the commission, Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial had restrained the panel from proceeding with its task. The government had then appealed to the Supreme Court, asking CJP Bandial, Justice Ijazul Ahsan, and Justice Munib Akhtar to distance themselves from the bench. The Justice Isa-led commission has now also objected to the larger bench hearing the case, stating that judges must not allow their personal interest to influence their official conduct or decisions. In today’s hearing, Advocate Riaz Hanif Rahi said he wanted to file a contempt of court petition and the court would first hear Attorney General for Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan’s arguments against the five-judge bench. The case has been adjourned until next week.
