The US State Department Spokesperson Vedant Patel believes that a strong and prosperous democratic Pakistan is important for US interests. He stated this during a press briefing where he also mentioned that the US is monitoring the situation in Pakistan closely while not taking a position on any political party or candidate. Patel emphasized the importance of respecting democratic principles and the rule of law around the world. The unrest in Pakistan after the arrest of Imran Khan had turned into violence. Patel underlined that access to information and diverse ideas is essential for a prosperous and democratic society. The US is looking to strengthen economic ties between the two countries as well as collaborating on security, renewable energy, addressing the climate crisis, and increasing agricultural trade. When asked if the political unrest posed a threat to the safety of Pakistani nuclear assets, Patel responded that it is something internal to Pakistan and that they continued engaging with their Pakistani counterparts on various issues despite the unrest.
