The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) carried out enforcement raids during the Eidul Fitr holidays in various cities due to the airing of illegal Indian TV channels and content by cable operators. Enforcement teams raided cable offices in Multan, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Karachi, and Hyderabad. In the cities of Karachi, Hyderabad, Sanghar, Thatta, and Sujawal, Pemra’s enforcement team seized equipment, including satellite receivers, modulators, transmitters, and digital boxes, used in the illegal activity. Show cause notices were issued to violators, and fines were imposed for previous violations. In Multan, 34 cable offices were searched, and 20 were caught airing illegal Indian channels. Pemra’s regional office in Lahore conducted 89 surprise inspections in all seven districts, finding three violations in Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, and Kasur. Equipment used for illegal transmissions was confiscated from 15 cable operators in Khushab and Sargodha by Pemra’s regional office in Sargodha. Additionally, Pemra’s staff in Gujranwala conducted 14 surprise inspections in various areas in Gujranwala, Wazirabad, Sambrial, Lalamusa, Kharian, Ladhewala Warriach, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Narowal, and Hafizabad, confiscating the receivers deployed for illegal transmissions. Furthermore, Pemra cautioned all cable television operators to stop airing illegal content immediately.
