The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has raised concerns over the ongoing digital census in Karachi, accusing authorities of deliberately undercounting the population. The party warned that if its concerns are not addressed, it could stage a sit-in protest on Sharea Faisal. MQM-P is worried that up to eight million people might remain uncounted in Karachi alone. The party’s coordination committee said that many areas in Karachi and Hyderabad have not yet been reached by enumerators, and that the population count has been kept low in areas where the digital census was conducted. The committee warned that with these flaws in the process, seven to eight million people might remain uncounted in Karachi, making the multi-billion rupee exercise pointless.
