Pakistan’s political party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has lodged a petition with the country’s Supreme Court to ensure that elections for Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa assembly are held in keeping with the Constitution. The PTI has asked the apex court to instruct the Election Commission to hold assembly elections closest to the 90-day period after the dissolution of the assembly and to discard Governor Ghulam Ali’s petition seeking a delay in elections until October. The Supreme Court already instructed the Election Commission of Pakistan to hold Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa assembly elections in April, though the ECP challenged Punjab’s decision and stated in October that the polls will take place instead that month. This led to Ghulam Ali requesting that the ECP delay provincial elections until October, prompting the PTI to thus file a petition requesting a timely election for Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
