Babar Azam will return as Pakistan captain for the upcoming tour against New Zealand, with the 22-year-old having sat out of Pakistan’s 2-1 defeat to Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Shaheen Shah Afridi has also returned from injury and is set to lead Pakistan’s pace battery in both the T20I and One-day International series. Among the players joining Shaheen in Pakistan’s pace attack is Ihasanullah, who was named in both the T20 and ODI squads for the New Zealand series for his impressive performances in the PSL and against Afghanistan. Opener Saim Ayub, veteran all-rounder Imad Wasim and pacer Zaman Khan, meanwhile, have been retained in the T20 squad for the New Zealand games. New Zealand’s assistant coach, Saqlain Mushtaq, will accompany the team to Pakistan, where they will play both white-ball formats. Tom Latham will lead the BlackCaps through the ODI series, which features two potential debutants.
