Toshakhana case: Court permits Imran to return after marking attendance outside Judicial Complex

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has been allowed to leave the Islamabad Judicial Complex after marking his attendance in the Toshakhana case. Khan had earlier said that he was not being permitted to enter the court’s premises. His party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has raised security concerns, after which the venue was shifted to the comparatively safer Judicial Complex. Khan appeared before the Islamabad court upon summons by Additional District and Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal for criminal proceedings against him for hiding details about Toshakhana gifts. The same court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against him on 13 March after he failed to appear before it. On 16 March, Khan had claimed that the authorities were trying to arrest him. He was, however, granted protective bail in nine cases by the Lahore High Court till March 27. The Islamabad High Court also suspended the arrest warrant against him in the Toshakhana case. Meanwhile, the Islamabad police have claimed that while protestors were “shelling the judicial complex”, PTI workers had pelted law enforcement with stones.
