Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, has been granted protective bail until 27 March by the Lahore High Court in relation to two terrorism cases registered against him following clashes at the Federal Judicial Complex. Imran had been named as a suspect in a counter-terrorism department first information report, which accused him and other PTI leaders of offences including rioting armed with a deadly weapon, the obstruction of a public servant, criminal damage, theft and intimidation after scuffles last week. The Lahore High Court also asked a government lawyer to request information on Zaman Park’s police operation in Islamabad and warned the court would consider issuing contempt of court proceedings against anyone found to have disrespected the court. Meanwhile both Imran and his rival, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, have cancelled gatherings in the city of Lahore following a bomb blast yesterday in a park that is believed to have been deliberately targeted at the area’s Christian minority community.
