Pakistani Interior Minister, Rana Sanuallah, said over the weekend that sufficient evidence was found in a raid on Imran Khan’s Zaman Park residence to justify declaring his political party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), a terrorist organisation. He highlighted that terrorists had been hiding there, and “weapons, petrol bombs, etc have been recovered from (the) residence”. Following these remarks, senior Vice President of PMLN Maryam Nawaz tweeted a video claiming that those attacking police at Zaman Park were not political workers but “trained terrorists and miscreants recruited from banned outfits that IK has always been supportive of”. Earlier in the week, Nawaz urged the federal government to treat the PTI as a “terrorist organisation”. The police have arrested 60 PTI workers so far, and allege that the workers, who had thrown petrol bombs at law enforcement officials during a previous operation, had attacked police in this operation too. Reports over the weekend also state that protesters stormed the premises of the Pakistani Parliament in Islamabad.
