Pakistani court grants Imran Khan bail in terrorism cases

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has been granted a week-long bail in two cases in which he faces terrorism charges. The move represents a further reprieve from arrest for Khan, a former cricket player who has become embroiled in series of legal cases including corruption and terrorism since his removal in a no-confidence vote last April. Khan denies all charges against him, arguing that he is being victimised by the government of his successor, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Khan faces terrorism charges relating to a rally last year in which he threatened a female judge and another charge concerning violence and incitement to violence outside court in Islamabad last week. Following the incident, hundreds of Khan’s supporters were arrested for attacking police in Islamabad and Lahore. Khan was also wounded during a shooting in November 2014 when a gunman attacked a rally, killing one of his supporters and injuring 13.
