Pakistan court rejects ex-PM Khan’s plea to suspend warrant

A Pakistani court has refused to suspend an arrest warrant for former Prime Minister Imran Khan, increasing the likelihood of police attempts to detain him. Khan has been holed up in his Lahore home since being accused of terrorism and graft, including preventing a female judge from carrying out her duties. The Pakistani courts have issued several warrants for his arrest, after he failed to turn up to hearings on two separate occasions. The politican has claimed that his ousting was the result of a conspiracy by the United States and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Yesterday, a Lahore High Court extended the pause in efforts to arrest Khan and his Pakistan Tehree-e-Insaf opposition party, in force until this morning. The party has been barred from holding a rally on Sunday ahead of elections for the assembly in Punjab, where Lahore is the provincial capital. Violence had erupted earlier this week when police tried to arrest Khan.
