Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who leads the Pakistan Democratic Movement, has expressed “full support” from all parties in the ruling coalition to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The two leaders met to discuss the current political, judicial and economic challenge, with a focus on elections to the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies. These were dissolved by the PTI-led provincial governments in January in order to pressure the federal government to bring forward a scheduled general election. The meeting also followed the passing of the suo motu powers bill by parliament this week. In a separate announcement, Sharif extended his congratulations to Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan on his appointment as vice president of the UAE, and to Sheikh Khaled Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan on his appointment as the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, stating that Pakistan looked forward to continuing strong partnerships with the UAE.
