The Wikimedia Foundation has announced that it has adopted a sound logo, known as an audio logo, for its products, including Wikipedia. The audio clip was submitted as part of last year’s “Sound of All Human Knowledge” contest, which attracted more than 3,000 entries from 135 countries by 2,094 participants. The winning sound logo, created by a nuclear engineer and music producer from Virginia, will need to be re-recorded professionally and adapted for use in different contexts, such as 2-second versions for social media posts and 60-second compositions for event videos. The audio clip is intended to reflect Wikimedia’s dedication to the sharing of knowledge, with the winning sound reflecting the idea of entering a library filled with endless knowledge. Wikimedia is working with voice assistant and technology partners to integrate the audio logo, which will be recognised worldwide to identify Wikimedia content.
