Police in Lahore, Pakistan have used tear gas and water cannons to disperse supporters of former prime minister Imran Khan, who had gathered outside his residence to prevent his arrest in the Toshakhana corruption case. Khan is accused of selling gifts received while in office for profit, including an expensive Graff wristwatch obtained from the state depository Toshakhana. Clashes broke out between police and PTI workers when police arrived to make the arrest. A large number of PTI workers equipped with clubs resisted police action. The police blocked all roads leading to Khan’s house by placing containers and riot personnel took positions to launch the operation. Khan was ousted from power in April 2016 after losing a no-confidence vote. Since then, protestors have been calling for elections to oust the current government.
