An anti-Gandhi film will be reviving an old studio in India

Talk about cashing in on hype: one of India's oldest and most iconic studios Bombay Talkies is reopening its doors by making a film that is bound to create ripples. This film, titled Gandhi vs Aazaad, will have a decidedly anti-Gandhi stance, reported The Indian Express.

The studio will be relaunched by its founder Rajnarayan Dube's grandson Abhay Kumar who would be making his debut as director with this film that will end the studio's dry spell since 1954. Kumar said that his film will show the ''other side'' of Mahatma Gandhi, which hasn't yet been seen by the world.

“I am all set to revive the studio with an anti-Gandhi film. The world will see the other side of Gandhi which they have not seen yet. I have studied in Bhosala Military School in Nashik, and developed an interest in Partition history. Gandhi got promoted as a hero, but the other true heroes like Chandra Shekhar Azad, Subhash Chandra Bose went unheard,” Abhay explained.

The historical drama will also be featuring him as Chandra Shekhar Azad who was a nationalist and a key member of the freedom struggle. Azad was also played by Aamir Khan in popular film Rang De Basanti.

Speaking about censorship concerns, Abhay said he did not fear censor board: "I have made a true patriotic film and there is no sex or vulgarity in it. Why should I be scared? Our studio will come up with many more films which will be primarily focusing on social subjects." Along with direction, he will also be writing the film.

Baadbaan, a film starring Meena Kumari, Ashok Kumar and Dev Anand, was the last film released by Bombay Talkies in 1954.

Disappointing to see Ghandi promoted in a negative manner.

While I agree that doing a 'hatchet' job on Gandhi would be unacceptable, we also have to remember that over time we tend to almost deify our heroes/icons - whether it be Jinnah, Gandhi, Churchill, JF Kennedy, Abe Lincoln etc. All of them were humans with flaws.

He was at least bisexual. His loveletters to some Austrian athlete were published a few years ago but taken off the net by Indian authorities.

Gandhi and Nehru were both gays.

    Nothing wrong with being gay.

But being a pedo is just icky.

There are few people I could happily kill with my bare hands.

Pedos are pretty high up there on that elite list. After I do some chop chop and snip snip.

What do you guys find more disgusting personally? Gays or pedos? Which make your skin crawl worse? The bile rise to your mouth?

    Cheers, Doc

Exactly. As long as they don't hit on me or rub up inappropriately or try to grope me, and act like normal males (preferably caveman), I'm perfectly happy to be in their company.
