Thanks for sharing Sinan Karachi has its problems. Some of the problems are faced by many large city metropolis in the world. But there are some unique problems and some unique beauties of Karachi. Hopefully overall your cousin enjoyed his time in Karachi

Hmmm, i wonder why nobody have been surprised with the "Man feeding a hawk by throwing fish out of his car's sunroof" story... I wouldn't believe it if somebody else told me that story apart from my cousin....

No, c'mon, let's be serious. There must be something. In the old days, when Karachi was far smaller, there were the old buildings of the days of the Raj. There were the beaches (relatively unpolluted at the time). I know that most of the British era buildings have been demolished. I don't think the beaches are in the pristine condition they used to be. I know this mega slum city is coming apart at the seams. But does it have any redeeming quality left?

There's a hawk that would visit the backyard and sit on the swing set at my house for a few summers.... I would have gave it the rats that I kill in my house every once in a while. But it flew away every time I opened the back door.

Mate, that won't happen in Ankara ....since there are no Hawks in the city........pigeons, sparrows, crows (rare). But there are no birds of prey. Maybe that's why me and my cousin have been fascinated.

You said why we are not surprised about man feeding falcons some fish on the road?
People feed human corpses to vultures in Karachi and its legal and normal.
Its a Parsi Zoristani religious tradition to leave their dead on a specially made tower for animals to eat. There are two such towers in Karachi
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/search.../data=!3m1!1e3

both are not too far from Faisal airbase about 3 km,and attract lots of large birds , causing problem and at time accident to PAF jets.

Mate,i 'm just conveying what my cousin told me. Although, i'm have been member of 2 Pakistani forums. I have never seen Pakistan, so i was curious. Also, let's not forget he visited Pakistan for 1 weeks and i'm only telling his impressions. He might be wrong on several occasions, i don't know. That's why, i'm telling and want your opinions.

P.S: I will continue when i get home in the evening.

He's not wrong. But after a few weeks you get inured to it, you subconsciously factor in all the uncertainties and hazards so that you stop thinking about them all the time and just treat them as a fact of life in Pakistan. There's one other thing to mention -- there are two Pakistans. One is the brown man's Pakistan -- the one the Pakistanis inhabit. Sporadic electricity, brown water (if that), chaotic traffic, unsafe food, random and unpredictable violence. And then there's the white man's Pakistan, which is cordoned off. A Pakistan of walled off and sealed hotels, clubs, and diplomatic enclaves. At some restaurants in Islamabad you have to show a foreign passport to get in. Neocolonial Pakistan.
