    Pakistan to generate 5‚789 MW via new hydro power projects

    ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani authorities have once again claimed that the country is near to get the production capacity of 5,789 megawatts electricity via 5 hydel power projects by 2018.

    According to WAPDA sources‚ Diamer-Bhasha Dam on River Indus will generate 4500 megawatts electricity and store over eight million acre feet of water to meet growing power and irrigation needs.

    Golen Gol Hydropower Project being constructed in Chitral will be completed next year and produce one hundred six megawatts electricity.

    The Neelum-Jhelum Hydroelectric Project on completion in 2016 would produce nine hundred sixty-nine megawatts electricity. Duber Khwar Hydropower Project located on Khan Khwar River in District Kohistan would produce one hundred thirty megawatts electricity.

    Kurram hydropower project having the capacity to produce eighty-four megawatts electricity power and it will be completed within next four years.

    Pakistan has hydropower potential to generate 60,000 MW electricity

    ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has an identified hydropower potential of 60,000 MW, of which 40,000 MW is located on Indus Cascade starting from Skardu to Tarbela, Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif said.

    He said this during a briefing session arranged for political representatives and notables of the Indus Cascade area on social development schemes proposed by Wapda here Wednesday.

    Khawaja Muhammad Asif said that projects of social and economic development were being given prime importance for improving the living standard of people living in areas of Indus Cascade.

    Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousuf,Minister of State for Water and Power, Ch.Abid Sher Ali ,Capt.(Rtd) Safdar MNA, Chairman Wapda,Zaffar Mehmood and parliamentarian of Kohistan area attended the meeting.

    During the briefing it was told that amount of Rs.85092 million would be spent in development of communication infrastructure, power, education, and health sectors in the area of Indus Cascade.

    It was also revealed that Wapda proposes to establish “Indus Cascade University” in which students of the area would be given preference in admission.

    The sole purpose of the university is work for capacity building of students of the area so that suitable jobs could be offered to the local residents in power projects in the area.

    These projects, on completion, would transform the socio-economic landscape of the area and bring about a major difference in the lives of the people.

    Federal Minister for Water and Power said on the occasion that government remains committed to overcoming the crisis once and for all.

    For this purpose,he said the government was working on various sources such as coal, LNG, solar and wind to augment power generation to bridge the gap between demand and supply.

    He further added that according to WAPDA studies, Pakistan has an identified hydropower potential of 60,000 MW, of which 40,000 MW is located on Indus Cascade starting from Sakardu to Tarbela.

    He also mentioned the enormous untapped potential of Indus Cascade offers a way out of worst energy crisis and charts a path for accelerated economic development of the regions where these projects are located.

    At close of the session, Political representatives expressed satisfaction over launch of projects of social and economic development for better living standard of the people and thanked the concerned authorities for fulfilling corporate social responsibilities in letter and spirit.

    Govt to inject 2,600MW electricity in system

    LAHORE: The government is trying to overcome power shortfall by injecting 2,600 megawatts of electricity in the system through multiple projects, said Board of Investment Chairman Dr Miftah Ismail on Thursday.

    He said this after inaugurating the 11th International Plastic, Printing and Packaging Exhibition and Conference (3P Pakistan 2015) at the Expo Centre.

    Organisers claimed that 250 companies from 25 countries including Austria, China, Germany, India, Italy and Taiwan were taking part in the three-day event. A food and technology event was also being held simultaneously.

    Emerging technologies, mac*h*ineries and modern equip**ment specifically desig*ned to remodel the plastic sector was displayed at the event.

    “We are sophisticated machine manufacturers and feel that the Pakistani market has high potential for our multiple machinery products. This is my third visit to Pakistan and my company has sold three machines associated with plastic products to Pakistani companies,” said Christian Humann, an official from an Austrian company.

    “I have received up to 15 business customers who have shown their interest in buying our multiple machinery items used in printing, coating, lamination, film sanding and other processes,” said Michael Chen, Sales Manager of Wordly Industrial Co Limited Taiwan. This is Mr Chen’s second visit to Pakistan for business.

    Inderjiit Singh, Director of JK Paras Polycoats Limited, India said that he was eyeing potential buyers for promotion of his products including master batches, polycoat comp*o*unds, calcium carbonate and other chemicals.
