At least 9 killed, 16 injured in Kurram Agency suicide blast

At least nine people were killed and 16 others wounded when a suicide bomber blew up his explosive-laden car in Kurram Agency on Saturday, officials said.

The bomber detonated the vehicle just outside the compound of anti-Taliban militant commander Maulana Nabi, in the town of Spin Tal near the Afghan border, senior administration official Zakir Hussain said.

"It was a suicide attack, the target was militant commander Nabi's centre," Hussain told AFP.

Nabi's guards stopped the vehicle and the attacker blew his car up after he failed to enter the compound, he said. Residents said he survived the attack.

An intelligence official placed the death toll at 10. They included a guard and four children who had been playing near the compound.

Officials said Nabi had developed differences with the leadership of the Pakistani Taliban.

In the past, clashes have erupted between the supporters of Mullah Nabi and the TTP’s Mullah Toofan leading to casualties on both sides.

No one has claimed responsibility for the blast. However, it is suspected that members of the TTP were behind Saturday’s attack.

Pakistan bomb: 'Seven killed' in Bajaur market

A bomb has killed at least seven people in the north-western Pakistani tribal region of Bajaur, reports say.

The explosion tore through a busy market in the Salarzai area, leaving more than 20 others injured.

It is not clear who carried out the attack. Bajaur borders the Afghan province of Kunar where the Taliban have strongholds.

Correspondents say the militants have often attacked anti-Taliban tribal militias in the Salarzai area.

Bajaur has seen some of the worst of the fighting between Pakistani government forces and Taliban militants in recent years.

The army has repeatedly declared the area to be secure, only for the militants to prove them wrong.

Islamabad says the Taliban find sanctuary on the Afghan side of the border and launch attacks against targets in the Pakistani tribal regions of Dir, Bajaur and Mohmand.

Kabul and Nato accuse Pakistan of not doing enough to stop militants launching attacks from Pakistani territory against targets inside Afghanistan.

    Explosion kills five in Khyber

LANDI KOTAL: Five militants, including a key commander, were killed in a roadside bomb blast in the northwestern tribal region of Khyber on Monday, DawnNews reported.

A locally manufactured bomb was used in the blast that took place in the Bara area of Khyber, government sources told DawnNews.

Also in Bara, a mortar shell fell on a house, injuring six people.

Khyber is among Pakistan’s seven tribal districts near the Afghan border which are rife with homegrown insurgents and are alleged to be strongholds of Taliban and al Qaeda operatives.

Militants have killed more than 4,800 people across Pakistan since July 2007.

2 killed, 18 injured in Karachi blast

2 killed, 18 injured in Karachi blast

    By Web Desk / AFP
    Published: August 17, 2012

KARACHI: At least two people were killed and 18 people injured in a blast near the Safari Park in Karachi, Express News reported on Friday.

The blast had occurred when a bus was passing by the area. Passengers on board were on their way to participate in a rally on MA Jinnah Road.

“A low-intensity bomb planted near a bus stand in Gulistan-e-Jauhar neighbourhood exploded and hit a car and a bus,” senior police official Shahid Hayat told AFP.

“The bomb killed a man in the car and injured 11 others, most of whom were bus passengers,” Hayat said.

All of the injured were shifted to Jinnah hospital where doctors declared that most of them are in serious condition.

Dr Seemin Jamali, the Director of Emergency Services at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) stated that two injured who were in critical condition have been shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

There is no confirmation on the nature of the blast as yet. The Express News correspondent has reported that ball bearings had pierced through the arms, legs and chests of the passengers.

Initial reports stated that the passengers were students of Imamia Students Organisation (ISO) who were headed to the rally. More than 20 people were on board.

The Youm-e-Quds rally was scheduled to begin from Numaish Chowrangi and conclude at Tibet Centre.

The bus was partially destroyed as a result of the blast. A Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) sub-station located outside Safari Park was also damaged in the blast.

Other participants of the rally at the blast site are being sent off in buses.

“We can’t say it was aimed at the bus as the bomb mainly hit the car. But we are investigating,” said a police official on the condition of anonymity.

Law enforcement agencies arrived and started conducting investigations.

Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah sought a report from the Inspector General (IG) of Police.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Javed Maher said that an additional contingent of police was deployed at the blast site.

Participants at the rally site staged a protest and chanted slogans against the incident.

The protesters said that proper security was not provided to the participants despite bus routes being known.

A protester said that it was a “conspiracy of the United States and Israel” and declared that the rally will be carried out as scheduled.

According to Express News, Youm-e-Quds is being observed and many rallies are being taken out in this regard. The rally is organised every year on the last Friday of Ramazan.

At least five dead in Balochistan

QUETTA: Gunmen shot dead five people in attacks on two buses as rebels in Balochistan staged a strike to mark the anniversary of a tribal leader’s death, officials said Monday.

There was a “complete strike” in provincial capital Quetta and several other districts on Sunday, local police chief Wazir Khan told AFP, with shops and markets closed and traffic brought to a standstill.

The halt was called by Balochistan Republican Party (BRP) leader Brahmdagh Bugti to mark the sixth anniversary of the death of his grandfather Akbar Bugti, a rebel chieftain killed in his mountain hideout during a military operation in 2006.

In the southeastern district of Bolan, gunmen opened fire on two buses late Sunday, killing five people including two women, police official Iftikhar Bugti said.

BRP spokesman Sarbaz Baluch claimed responsibility for the shooting.

“We had launched an appeal for a complete strike and the buses bound for southern Sindh and central Punjab provinces had ignored our appeal. We therefore opened fire on them,” he said in a telephone call to AFP.

Separately three Shia Muslims were killed in a sectarian drive-by shooting on Monday, police officer Zakir Ali said.

Police and residents said Sunday’s strike was almost complete across the impoverished and insurgency-hit province, with 21 out of 30 districts affected.

People blocked roads and erected barricades in several places on highways leading to Iran, the southern port of Karachi and other important cities, they said.

The strike was endorsed by other political and religious parties in the province, with around 300 people demonstrating in Quetta to demand the extradition and trial of former military ruler Pervez Musharraf for ordering the operation in 2006.

Fifteen Pakistani troops missing after clashes: officials

KHAR: Pakistani security officials said Friday that 15 troops were missing following fighting with militants in the country’s northwestern Bajaur tribal region three days ago.

The clashes on Tuesday came as part of a Pakistan army operation to repel Taliban militants who had crossed over from Kunar province in Afghanistan last Friday and occupied the village of Batwar in the Bajaur tribal agency.

“At least 15 of our soldiers are still missing,” a senior security official told AFP.

Another security official said “more or less” that number of soldiers were missing but declined to give the exact total.

Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesman for northwestern Malakand region Sirajud Din phoned AFP late Tuesday to claim that Taliban had beheaded 15 security forces personnel.

Car bomb rips through Peshawar; 11 dead

PESHAWAR: A powerful car bomb ripped through a market in northwestern Pakistan on Friday, killing at least 11 people, police said.

The explosion in Matni bazaar near the city of Peshawar injured another 20 people and damaged 30 shops, senior police official Abdul Sattar said.

Khan said the dead and wounded had been transported to a hospital, and some of the injured were listed in a critical condition.

No one claimed responsibility for the attack.

Provincial Information Minister Mian Iftikhar condemned the attack, saying terrorists had killed innocent people by detonating the bomb in a crowded bazar.

“Such attacks cannot deter our resolve in the fight against terrorism,” he said.

Peshawar has witnessed scores of such attacks, most blamed on Pakistani Taliban against whom the military has launched several offensives in recent years. Local tribal elders have assisted the military in its campaigns.

    R.I.P to the dead.

Start the damn operation at much larger scale. Kill every extremist no matter Afghan Taliban, Pakistan Taliban. Haqqani network, TTP, LeT. etc. I mean every country will give complete support to Pakistan and will improve its image too.

There will be collateral damage but aren't people already being killed, soldiers kidnapped and beheaded. There are already 36,000 or more are already killed.

Strangely, the security situation in the Western parts of Pakistan is eerily similar to the one in Eastern Afghanistan (& the rest of Afghanistan). There was a bomb blast in Kunduz today that killed 16 people. Whenever something in Eastern Afghanistan happens, something similar happens in the Western regions of Pakistan bordering Afghanistan.

TTP (Ghazi force) has claimed responsibility for that attack

    http://dawn.com/2012/09/11/14-killed...ctarian-attack

note the word Ghazi force.... they are the terrorists belonging to the Lal masjid who were freed by our judiciary despite vowing to seek revenge for the attack while in the courts,

the irony is that the Lal Masjid inhabitants equated their fight with the state to the incident of Karbala and now they have joined hands with their Wahabi Taliban brothers to continue with their age old hobby of shia culling.

I recall what someone said on a tv program, people of Pakistan today who are facing the economic hardship and terrorism raise their hands and curse two people Asif Zardari and CJ Ifrikhar Chaurdhary,

to date we have not convicted and punished even a single terrorist and murderer. there is no doubt that they feel invincible and fancy attacking our military installations as well from time to time daring the state to challenge them and stop them.

my fellow Pakistanis mourn over myanmar massacre and the hardships of Palestinians under the Siege of Israelis, but a small part of our country is virtually cut off from the rest of Pakistan.. it is Parachinar which is constantly under siege by Taliban & other fanatics who are killing the inhabitants of that godforsaken place for decades without any reprisal. can you guys believe that those people have to seek food and other supplies from Afghanistan?

Chief Justice is blaming our security agencies for not doing enough for missing people while Supreme court is releasing many extremist and terrorist to kill our civilians, to increase violence and unrest in the country.
These attack will never end unless we take appropriate and full scale offense against Taliban, and madrassas in the control of government and security agencies. Till now, Taliban are succeed.

Seven workers gunned down in Mastung

MASTUNG: Seven construction workers lost their lives when unidentified men opened fire on them in Mastung area of Balochistan, DawnNews reported.

Four workers died on the spot by the firing while three succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital, Levies sources confirmed.

The Levies sources said that the incident took place in ‘Dasht’ area of Mastung when the labourers were busy in their work.

Firing also injured four other workers, who were taken to Civil Hospital Quetta.

Security in the area has been beefed up and troops of police and Levies troops have been deployed in the area.

There was no claim of responsibility for the attack, but Balochistan suffers from ethnic tensions, sectarian violence between Sunni and Shia Muslims and a separatist insurgency which also targets non-natives.

Small separatist groups in impoverished Balochistan often target Pakistanis from other parts of the country. The separatists want autonomy and a greater share of the money derived from the province’s natural resources like gas and oil.
